What is a fanlisting? A fanlisting is a site dedicated to uniting fans all around the world of a particular subject. If you're a fan, then you can be a part of the fanlisting! All you have to do is join with your name, country and email address. There's no other requirements involved on your part. TheFanlistings.org is the original web directory for fanlistings. It lists one fanlisting per subject, so that fans can easily find the fanlisting they're looking for, and all fans for that subject find the same fanlisting. The subjects include entertainment, fashion, history, food, sports, technology and various miscellaneous subjects as well. If you can be a fan of it, there can be a fanlisting for it. This is the only fanlisting listed at TFL.org for the Lost episode "The Constant." What's the point of building or joining a fanlisting? Because it's nice to know there are other people you've never heard of who share a remote commonality with you. Plus, it beats sitting around waiting to go insane.
In the episode "The Constant," Lapidus takes Desmond and Sayid to the freighter on a helicopter. On the way, Desmod has what appears to be a flashback to his days in the army. Back on the helicopter, Desmond seems to be confused about where he is, and moves back and forth between the time of his flashback and the present as if he is aware of the shifts in time and space. Sayid and Desmond are taken down to the sick bay of the freighter where they meet a man named George Minkowski, who appears to know something about what Desmond is going through, but is naturally being cryptic about it.
Back on the island, a phone conversation is arranged between Daniel Faraday and Desmond. Faraday asks him a few questions, and finds out that Desmond thinks he's supposed to be in 1996. Faraday instructs Desmond to go find him (Faraday) at Oxford University for help when he's back in his own time. When Desmond flashes back to 1996, he does as instructed and finds Faraday. Skeptical at first, Faraday is soon conviced that Desmond has been to the future and reveals to Desmond his machine that makes consciousnesses come "unstuck" in time. Desmond realizes that this is what is happening to himself and Minkowsky because of the island; his mind is moving back and forth between the his physical presence in two seperate times.
When Desmond sees what happens to the subject of Faraday's experiment, a rat named Eloise, and the worsening condition of Minkowski, he worries about what will happen to him. Faraday warns that his consciousness might not be able to cope with the jumps unless he finds a constant: something familar in both times to anchor himself with. Desmond immediately knows what to do; he calls up Charles Widmore in order to contact Penelope. When he gets an address, he goes to see her and convinces her to wait for his call on Christmas Eve, eight years later. Back on the freighter, Desmond remembers the phone number he got from Penny and calls her. She has kept her promise to wait for his call, and they exchange promises to never give up on each other. The phone connection is lost, but Desmond has already gotten himself re-stuck in time, and Sayid is relieved to find that Desmond once again recognizes where he is and the people around him.
